Libro Credit Union Invests in Our Entrepreneurs

We are pleased to announce our collaboration with Libro Credit Union Kitchener-Waterloo and their $20,000 investment in our In Her Shoes (Women) Employment & Entrepreneurship Training Program. The investment comes from the Libro Prosperity Fund Program that funds the important work of charities and non-profits across South Western Ontario along the pillars of economic development, youth leadership and money smarts.

"Being Libro means we’re focused on growing prosperity in southwestern Ontario, investing 100% of profits back into the people, businesses and communities we serve. The Prosperity Fund, Libro’s annual granting program, invests up to half a million dollars to support local organizations that are growing prosperity in southwestern Ontario in our three focus areas: Economic Development, Youth Leadership and Money Smarts. On November 8th we hosted Libro, along with friends from the economic development department and Kitchener City Council, for a funding celebration. We provided tours of our store and work space, talked about our program and the importance of economic development that considers the strength of newcomer women and highlighted the successes of a few of our recent graduates from our employment program stream as well as our newly launched entrepreneurs.

"This investment is a reassurance that the strength and power of newcomer women is not going unnoticed and that their potential to contribute and build this communities economic development is to be celebrated and invested in."

- Jennifer Gordon, Director of Youth Services & Entrepreneurship

The money from this investment will directly impact 60 newcomer women, providing a living wage subsidy for time worked in our bricks and mortar store and a flexible micro investment to help our entrepreneurship graduates remove barriers and launch their business with their best foot forward. We are thrilled to be able to partner in with Libro on this initiative.
